How do we decide on the best power banks?
When rating any portable power bank we look at what the real features are (what most users will need) and tend to disregard a lot of the “fluff” that some of them try to include. For instance certain brands can tend to have multiple LED displays or flashlights, or even simply too many USB ports of lower speed or power output etc. Certain power banks that may seem simple or lacking features at first could actually end up being your best choice and serve your needs just fine.Taking this into consideration can usually save you some money and still get you a very high quality portable charger with the features you will use and nothing you won’t..
We grade highly based on reliability and, other than our own hands on review, try to read as many other online user reviews as possible to help gauge the overall reliability and longevity of a given power bank. You want your portable charger to be a workhorse for countless hours and at least several years of regular charging. When something goes wrong with a power bank (which obviously can happen) it’s important that the product have a solid warranty in place (we prefer at least 1 year) so that if the charger stops working for any reason you can potentially get a replacement free of charge.
#3. Product Build Quality
Build Quality, much like reliability, is very high on our list of important factors to consider. It is also highly connected with reliability as you really can’t have one without the other. Buying a quality power bank by a trusted company with a solid warranty is by far the best choice and always what we recommend. It’s important not to just base this on the “looks” of a power bank as this doesn’t tell you much about the quality of what’s inside. You can gauge this better by actually holding the product in your hand as well as by what others have said in various online reviews.
#4. Overall Value For The Price
This essentially takes into account the other 3 categories (Features, Reliability, Build Quality) and stands as combined rating based on them. We don’t always recommend getting the most expensive or fully featured battery charger in every situation because, despite what is most common, you don’t always get what you pay for in every situation. Also there are features of certain products that you may just not need or use, so why pay for them? Pay attention to what your individual needs are and purchase your power bank (portable charger) based on those needs. Will you be needing to charge more than one device at a time? Do you travel a lot and is portability a strong factor for you? If portability is more important than just sheer power capacity then we recommend a smaller power bank option; one that is more travel friendly. Make sure to do some research online and read user reviews of a particular power bank. Any product we recommend always takes into account the number and overall rating of user reviews online, in addition to other factors.

EasyAcc 10000mAh Power Bank Brilliant External Battery Pack Portable Charger
So this week we got our hands on the updated version of the EasyAcc 10000mAh Power Bank Brilliant External Battery Pack. This is the 2nd generation of the power bank and with the improvements EasyAcc have packed into it, we think this is going to be a winner.
So what has changed? In the 2nd generation, you get upgraded to Smart technology output ports, that went from 2.1A to 3.1A (MAX) total output, a flashlight, and the overall weight actually went down from 8.48oz / 240g to 7.97oz / 226g.
We found it fit comfortably in the hand. When pressing the case, it really feels like a solid piece of kit that won’t let you down. With it’s slim, sleek design and 18-month hassle-free replacement and warranty we couldn’t really fault it.
It has two USB 2.4A (MAX) output ports with the Smart charge making them deliver the best charge for any device you plug into it. The 10000mAh got us two full recharges on our Samsung Galaxy S7. We used a 5V 2A charging adaptor which gave us between 6-8 hrs to charge the power bank to full, but most people can expect around 10-12 hrs using the ever common 1A chargers or from most laptop ports. All in all, this is by far one of the best power banks we have reviewed and well worth the buy.
Anker PowerCore 10000
Considering Anker is one of America’s leading USB charging brands we were not surprised when they brought out one of the world’s best size to capacity power banks. It was smiles all round when we got to review the Anker Powercore 10000. First and foremost, we just couldn’t get over how small and light this thing is for the amount of capacity it holds. Weighing in at only 6.35oz/180g and holding a massive capacity of 10000mAh, it can charge an iPhone 6s over three full charges.
To save space it has a one-output and one-Input configuration, making it a no-nonsense power bank that fitted neatly into any pocket we could find. As with all of Anker’s top of the range Powercore products, it has PowerIQ and Voltage Boost technology built in, giving it a total of 5V 2.4A (MAX) output and a 5V 2A (MAX) input for fast recharging. All this wrapped in premium materials using high-grade components and a strong dual-layer shell that makes this one of the world’s most reliable and safest power banks on the market.

The Best Larger Capacity Portable Chargers
EasyAcc 20000mAh Power Bank (4A Dual-Input Fastest Charge 4.8A Smart Output) External Battery Pack Charger Portable Charger for Android iPhone Samsung HTC – Black and Orange
Need to charge 4 devices at once? Then this EasyAcc is the beast to do it. Boasting an enormous 20000mAh power bank with four USB ports that put out a total of 4.8A max. This device uses smart charging technology so the power banks chip will charge your devices at their optimal charging rate, meaning you can plug in any USB device and know you’re getting the fastest charge for that device. Although it holds a lot of juice, we still think it has a slim and sleek design.
This is our go-to power source for traveling. Whether it be at work, home or on the road, you can enjoy the freedom of not looking for power outlets/power adaptors every single day. You will get about four full charges (depending on your phone) and because it has the 4A dual input it charges twice as fast, taking around 6hrs for a full charge which is impressive compared to similar battery packs on the market.
We also like that it has four handy LED light indicators that show the charging and discharging progress. Add to this a built in LED light for use in emergency situations, it makes this EasyAcc 20000mAh power bank a double win in our eyes. In saying that, this is something that you would carry in a small bag, laptop bag or briefcase. It can fit into some clothes pockets but we found it a little bit too heavy to feel comfortable when walking around. However, that’s a small price to pay when all of your friend’s power banks have run out and you have enough ports and enough power to not only keep you fully charged, but to help them out as well.
- We loved the smart charging technology
- 4 USB ports 4.8A Max (Most power banks only have two)
- 2 Micro USB 4A charging ports (Most power banks only have one)
- LED light
- We found the design very sleek looking
- We found it a little on the heavy side to carry comfortably in a pocket
Anker PowerCore 20100 – Ultra High Capacity Power Bank with 4.8A Output, PowerIQ Technology
We like the sound of high-speed charging, long lasting, portable power, and if you do too then the Anker Powercore 20100 is the power bank for you. With its ability to charge an iPhone up to 7 times, this is the power bank you can take away for the whole week and with its slim design, one that you can fits nicely into your pocket.
It has all the features you’d expect from a top of the range Anker power bank, plus the new High-speed charging PowerIQ and Voltage Boost. The PowerIQ adapts to any device you plug into it so you always get the fastest possible charging speed. While the Voltage Boost enables a steady current no matter what USB cable you use to charge it.
The only downside we found is that a power bank this big will take a while to charge up, with a 1A charger it can take approx 21hrs, but Anker have helped this by putting in a 2A charging port to cut that time in half.
In the box, we got an Anker PowerCore 20100 Portable Charger, Micro USB cable, travel pouch and welcome guide, plus an 18-month warranty. This charger comes recommended by us.
RAVPower 22000mAh Power Bank 5.8A Output 3-Port Battery Pack (2.4A Input, Triple iSmart 2.0 USB Ports, Li-polymer Battery)
Welcome to the mothership of all power banks. This RAVPower 22000mAh brings a whole new meaning to WEEKLONG…We loved the three USB ports, each capable of giving 2.4A Max out of the available 5.8A total current output. The included new and improved iSmart 2.0 technology ensures each device gets the best possible charge within the quickest time, even when using all three ports.
We can’t say enough about the piece that matters the most in all power banks. The battery inside…The RAVPower 22000mAh is a Li-polymer high-density battery that has long lasting efficiency and 7-10% more power than most other power banks consisting of 18650 cells. We know this battery bank will maintain 70-80% capacity even after 500 charges/discharges. With its 5V 2.4A input, it can charge it back to full in 10-11hrs, making it one of the fastest on the market that we’ve seen.
The rounded edges make it look elegant and it’s made of the same material used by Mercedes-Benz and BMW for their luxury cars – UL94 V-0 fire-resistant thermoplastic alloy (PC/ABS) shell provided by Germany-based Bayer Technology Services. Given all that and the fact it can charge an iPhone 6S up to 9 times…We feel this is a must have. Going on weeklong adventures is no longer a problem. This portable charger will never let you down. In the box, we got an Anker PowerCore 20100 Portable Charger, Micro USB cable, travel pouch and welcome guide, plus an 18-month warranty. This charger comes recommended by us.
Vinsic PB206 20000mAh Alien 20000mAh Ultra-Slim Dual USB Power Bank
We felt safe knowing that the chip inside the Vinsic PB206 20000mAh Alien wouldn’t let us down, whether traveling abroad or at home we know we could relax and feel comfort in the top of the range technology packed into it’s slim fireproof PC V0 case. The Smart chip also protects against overcharge, over discharge, over-current, and over-voltage, plus added short circuit protection.
This unit comes with two 5V 2.4A USB ports that are true Qualcomm 2.0 Quick charging ports that can be used simultaneously. The Smart technology also kept our devices charging at their maximum charge rate, so with that in mind, we know it can keep most smartphones going for a week.
We were happy to see that it comes with one micro USB 5V 2A input, so from flat to full it took us around 10hrs charging time depending on the charger that we used. We love the sleek look, slim design and with the touch of a finger, you get a digital read-out of the current battery capacity which is a favorite feature that is lacking on other power banks on the market.
We did find this unit a bit on the heavy side. Also, fingerprints and scratches do show up on the outer case. However, we feel that’s a small gripe on an otherwise stellar performer.
